Lovin' Mo Willems

I don’t know about all of you – but my students LOVE Mo Willems, so the more I can incorporate his books into my lesson planning the better! The colors are bright, the characters are infectious, and the story lines are simple and easy to understand. One thing that I really like about Mo Willems is that he uses speech bubbles to tell the story. This makes comprehension a breeze and the kiddos love it! It can also serve as a springboard for some really cute writing activities!

In the activity below, students use speech bubbles to write their own storyboard! There are two storyboard printables to choose from. The first has Willems-inspired characters filled in. In the second, students are free to create their own characters! This activity is perfect for a Writer's Workshop Mini-Lesson, and will work with pretty much any Willems book that uses speech bubbles. I used super cute graphics from ScrappinDoodles.com and DigiwebStudio.com to create this printable. Enjoy!

I always love finding out more about what inspires great authors. Check out this video interview with Mo Willems to learn about how he creates his adorable and hilarious stories!
